Who We Are
TutorSmart in partnership with Toledo Public Schools, Boys and Girls Clubs Toledo, YMCA Toledo, Tabernacle, the United Way of Greater Toledo and After-School All-Stars is pivoting to virtual support for students during the pandemic. Students across the TPS district engage with teachers and volunteers throughout the week to get small group tutoring in the areas where they need it, help with homework on an ongoing basis, and to engage with activities and enrichment during after school hours. TutorSmart is looking for student volunteers to help staff the after school homework help labs and engage with those students who come in to get help. A lot of our kids are feeling isolated and overwhelmed by their current circumstances and we are looking for compassionate leaders who are willing to listen and be a mentor to the students who are feeling a little lost.
GOALS

Provide peer mentoring relationships that help students grow and flourish because they know someone who cares about them and their success.

Provide a virtual space where students who are struggling academically can get the help they need to be successful in school.

Provide opportunities for connecting students who are interested in serving with the kids who need them the most.
COMMITMENTS
We ask our student volunteers to commit to specific times each week that they are available. You can volunteer for one hour shifts anytime between 3:30-5:30 Mondays through Fridays. Our kids need consistency and to know that people care about them and we need to be able to plan staffing appropriately throughout the week. Right now, everything is virtual so you would be assigned to a Google Classroom and on your given day/times, you would pop into the Google Meet and help any kids who need assistance with their homework. We will have breakout rooms available for when multiple kids come in at once. Training will be provided and you will be assigned a Lead Tutor Coordinator who will be your contact person.
